“The Lion Cage”: A Mid-Century Exterior Brought Back to Life
Board-and-batten siding, vertical wood slats and white stucco on a mid-century home, repainted in sage green and white.

- LocationSan Diego
- PropertyMid-century modern home
- ScopeExterior repaint: board-and-batten, wood slats, stucco
The project
Its owners named this mid-century property "The Lion Cage," and they called Double G to make the exterior come alive again. The house mixes materials the way mid-century homes do: vertical board-and-batten siding, wood slat screens, and white stucco.
What we did
- Prepped and painted the board-and-batten siding in sage green
- Painted the vertical wood slat screens to match, working every edge
- Painted the stucco volumes white for contrast
Board-and-batten and slat screens have a lot of edges, and each one has to be painted or the old color peeks through. It's slow, careful brush work.
The result
A fresh, cohesive exterior that respects the home's mid-century lines, and very excited owners. See more exterior painting.
