Painting in Point Loma

House Painters in Point Loma

Historic homes, coastal fog on one side and full sun on the other, and plenty of original wood. Point Loma exteriors need careful prep, and that's how we paint them.

Quick answerDouble G paints homes across Point Loma, including Loma Portal, La Playa, Sunset Cliffs, Fleetridge and Point Loma Heights. Many are older wood-sided or Spanish homes, so we specialize in the prep they need: stripping failed paint, repairing wood and stucco, lead-safe practices, and primers chosen for coastal conditions.

Painting in Point Loma

Point Loma has some of San Diego's oldest and most varied housing: early-1900s wood homes near the bay, Spanish Revival and craftsman houses in Loma Portal and Roseville, mid-century homes up the hill, and newer builds near Sunset Cliffs. What they share is exposure. One side of the peninsula gets the ocean, the other gets the bay, and the marine layer hangs around most mornings.

For paint, that means wood siding and trim go through constant wet-dry cycles, and paint fails from behind if water gets into the wood. A good Point Loma repaint is mostly prep: scraping to sound paint, repairing and replacing soft wood, priming everything bare, and caulking so water stays out.

Our Point Loma historic home

On the Point Loma historic home, the paint on the gables had failed down to bare wood. The crew worked from scaffolding to strip the old paint by hand around the decorative trim, scraped and primed the siding, brushed color samples on the house for the owner to compare, and finished in a warm gray with white trim and diamond-pane window details.

Amazing! That's the easiest way to say it. From the initial contact through to the very end, everything was amazing with Double G Painting. We needed the exterior of our 1911 Craftsman painted, along with some restoration work, and they made everything look great. So easy to work with. The painters were complete pros -- and awesome people to boot. Would highly recommend Double G to anyone looking to get their house painted.

I had a wonderful experience with Double G Painting. They installed new flooring in our home and the whole process was smooth from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional, and kept everything clean while they worked. The floors look amazing and you can really tell they take pride in their work. I’d definitely recommend Double G to anyone needing flooring done.

We had Double G paint our nearly 100-year-old house. First, we needed some carpentry work done. David came and did an excellent job repairing a rotted out door threshold and replacing some shingles. Carlos and Francisco did the painting, and they too did an excellent job. They did a lot of prep work on our windows and doors and then did a meticulous job of painting. They were always cheerful, seemed to enjoy the work and were easy to work with if we had concerns. We are very pleased with the results!

FAQ

Painting in Point Loma: FAQ

Do you paint historic homes in Point Loma?

Yes. Our Point Loma historic home project involved stripping failed paint from the gables on scaffolding, scraping and priming the wood siding, and repainting with period-appropriate colors. Older Point Loma homes often need lead-safe practices, which we follow on pre-1978 houses.

Why does paint peel on the ocean side of Point Loma homes?

The combination of marine moisture and sun cycles wood through wetting and drying, which breaks down the paint film from behind, especially on wood siding and trim. Proper priming, caulking joints and keeping water out of the wood is what makes paint last there.

Which Point Loma neighborhoods do you serve?

All of them, including Loma Portal, Roseville, La Playa, Sunset Cliffs, Fleetridge, the Wooded Area, Point Loma Heights and Liberty Station.
