The goal

Take an aging Coronado home with cracked stucco and years of weathering on faded paint, and give it new life.

The challenge

It wasn't just paint. The stucco, about fifteen years old, had cracked in many places. Three decks needed to be completely refinished, and the rooftop deck was stained and worn. On top of that, the house has smooth stucco, which shows every flaw: patches have to be feathered and blended perfectly or they telegraph right through the new paint.

What we did

• Wrapped and masked the house, windows, garage door and the metal spiral staircase
• Repaired stucco cracks throughout and blended the patches into the smooth finish
• Painted all stucco walls for an even, uniform surface
• Refinished three decks and the balcony
• Pressure washed the rooftop deck, made repairs, and applied a new waterproof deck coating
• Refinished the diamond-plate stair treads and repainted the spiral staircase and railings
