Crown Point Beach House: Repair, Restore, Repaint
A big job with a beautiful result: termite- and water-damaged deck and stairs rebuilt, siding and trim restored, and the whole house repainted.

- LocationCrown Point, Pacific Beach
- PropertyTwo-story shingle-sided beach house
- ScopeTermite & water damage repair, deck & stairs rebuilt, full exterior repaint
- Completed2020
The goal
This beach house on Jewell Street in Crown Point had spent years facing Mission Bay's damp air. The owner wanted to repair, restore and extend the life of the home, not just put a coat of paint over the problems.
What we found
Visible termite infestation and water damage on the side deck and exterior staircase, weathered and peeling shingle siding, failing trim around the bay window, and a covered porch with worn decking and lattice. Painting over any of that would have failed within a season or two.
What we did
- Removed and rebuilt the termite- and water-damaged side deck and exterior staircase
- Replaced damaged siding and trim, and repaired the bay window surround
- Replaced worn porch deck boards
- Scraped, primed and painted the shingle siding in a soft gray
- Painted all trim, windows and porch railings white
- Painted the new stairs and railings in charcoal to ground the color scheme
The result
A huge job and a beautiful result. The house went from tired and damaged to a crisp gray-and-white beach house with solid stairs and decks underfoot. This is the kind of project where holding both a painting license and a general building license matters: one crew, one schedule, one proposal.
