Stucco, Wood & Drywall Repair Before Painting

Paint can't fix what's underneath it. Our licensed crew repairs cracked stucco, dry rot, termite damage, siding, fascia, decks and drywall as part of the paint job, so you don't have to hire and schedule a second contractor.

Quick answerDouble G repairs stucco, dry rot, termite-damaged wood, siding, fascia, decks, stairs and drywall before painting. We hold California CSLB License #1104525 with a B General Building classification, so our own crew does the repairs and the painting on one proposal and one schedule.

Repairs we handle

Stucco

Crack repair, patching broken or missing stucco, rebuilding corners and window returns, and matching the existing texture so patches disappear under paint. More on stucco painting and elastomeric coatings.

Dry rot and termite damage

Window sills, trim, fascia boards, rafter tails, siding at the base of walls, and deck framing are the usual suspects. We cut out and replace rotted wood, or repair sound historic wood with epoxy where that's the better option.

Siding and shingles

Lap siding, board-and-batten and cedar shingles replaced and blended with the existing profile. On the craftsman bungalow project, rotted siding at the base of the walls was replaced before the whole house was repainted.

Decks, stairs and railings

Damaged boards, treads and railings replaced so the finish goes onto solid wood. The Crown Point beach house had a termite- and water-damaged side deck and staircase rebuilt before painting.

Drywall and plaster

Cracks, holes, water stains, nail pops and old patches repaired and textured to match, then painted wall to wall so the repair doesn't show.

Gutters and downspouts

Gutters are often removed for painting, and failing gutters are a common cause of wood rot. Several of our clients have had new gutters installed as part of their repaint.

How repairs fit into your estimate

Your written proposal lists the repairs we can see at the estimate, with a price for each. If we uncover additional damage once old paint comes off, we stop, show you photos, and give you a price before doing the extra work. No surprises on the final invoice.

FAQ

Repairs Before Painting FAQ

Why should the painter do the repairs?

Because the repairs and the paint have to work together. When one crew does both, patches are primed and blended correctly, the schedule doesn't stall waiting on another trade, and there's one proposal and one warranty contact. Double G holds a B General Building license, which allows our crew to do the carpentry and stucco work along with the painting.

How do you find hidden damage?

During the estimate we probe trim, fascia, sills and siding for soft wood, check stucco for cracks and hollow spots, and look for water and termite signs. Some damage only shows once old paint comes off; if we find more, we show you photos and price it before doing the extra work.

Can you repair termite damage?

We replace wood that termites have damaged, like siding, trim, deck boards and stairs. We're not a pest control company, so if there's active infestation you'll want a licensed pest control operator to treat it first.

Do you repair drywall without repainting the whole room?

Small patches can sometimes be touched up, but paint rarely blends perfectly, especially on older paint. Usually we repaint the wall corner to corner after a repair so it doesn't show.

Do you do repairs without painting?

Our focus is painting and the repairs that go with it. If you have a repair that needs paint afterward, we're a good fit. For large remodels, ask during your estimate.
